  Roudebush begins golf course construction

The unique beauty of the Lena Park area sand country is being transformed into a championship golf course by Scott Roudebush on land just west of our nature preserve. We worry about the environmental impacts of development, but seeing their work we had to agree that they were doing an exceptional job of preserving and working with nature on their property, while creating an outstanding recreational facility.

The rolling, windswept dune topography with hilltops of oaks, and old spruce and pine plantings is being gently sculpted into an 18 hole championship quality course. With the efforts to protect the great old oaks, the course should look like it's been there for fifty years once the greens are installed by early 2001.

And sand traps? Well, there's certainly no need to haul in sand! Can the sand support quality greens? In fact, with irrigation from the abundant groundwater it should work well because it there's no way to make the sand too wet.
